Nabarro Select Research Monitor
Nabarro, a major UK law firm with 420+ lawyers has selected Research Monitor. After a comprehensive system trial the firm has selected the Access Control, Usage Monitoring, and Cost Recovery modules to manage upwards of seventy online resources.
“Along with usual suspects of LNB, Westlaw, and PLC, we’re excited to expand the list of online resources monitored and managed by Research Monitor. We see the real value of the management information provided by the system when we consolidate reporting for a large number of resources. It’s also exiting to provide the fee earners with password free access to online databases and journals from their desktops. This demonstrates the value of the system to management and fee earner alike.” said Peter Borchers, Priory’s Managing Director.
Recent increased focus on accountability and cost justification has seen rising interest in Research Monitor; with the Nabarro deal a third win in as many months.

Research Monitor V3 Released
Priory Solutions today announced the release of Research Monitor 3, the latest version of its leading Electronic Resource Management system.
Most large law firms subscribe to a multitude of online databases and electronic resources. These resources consist of electronic journals, specialist know how, business information services, and general legal content. They are all available through costly subscription or pay as you go models. On top of the price tag these systems come at a cost: thousands of usernames and passwords to manage, a huge knowledge gap about how this investment is being used, and charges that are time consuming or impossible to allocate to practice areas or clients.
Electronic Resource Management (ERM) systems enable firms to deal with these challenges. Once seen purely as online cost recovery tools, ERM systems have matured and now provide three distinct benefits;
Rory Kingan, Priory Solutions CTO commented on the new release; “Some of our new features include a cost recovery discounting model driven by search volumes and search sources. In the access control module we’ve added an access portal which displays all resources available to the current researcher, and in the usage monitoring module we’ve added additional support for capturing detailed information about research activity.”
Research Monitor doesn’t affect how researchers access resources. It seamlessly logs on to resources with the logon details for the current researcher – no more forgotten passwords and no more password sharing! It tracks all research sessions on an unlimited number of resources, so you know how heavily each resource is used and by whom. It provides matter number validation on any web page and can record matter numbers against websites that don’t collect a client code. All of these functions are configurable by an administrator and available without any need for vendor integration.
Said Managing Director Peter Borchers, “We are breaking new ground in the management information provided by our tools, for instance by allowing firms to determine the effectiveness of their single search solutions by reporting on usage levels and patterns. Our vision is to empower firms to make decisions from an informed position, and to further establish Research Monitor as the accepted solution for vendor independent electronic resource management.”
Priory Solutions has been delivering software solutions to the legal industry in the UK since 2003 and more recently the US legal market.

Monitor V2.0 Released
"I am delighted to announce
the release of Research Monitor V2.0. The release was slightly
delayed as we were reluctant to leave out any of the key feature
requests, some of which were received at a relatively late
stage. I am exceptionally pleased with the final product release
which has propelled it to the forefront of the third party
online research management product space.
Although the firms currently
using this technology are early adopters, the market is opening
up and the dominant solution will be the one that contains the
correct blend of functionality, flexibility, and ease of use.
The team believes we've achieved this with the new version. The
enhanced tracking and reporting features are very exciting and I
look forward to the feedback we'll receive over the coming
months." said Peter Borchers, Research Monitor Product Manager.

Priory Announce Rebranding of Online Cost Recovery Solution
Priory Solutions have rebranded their industry leading research management and
cost recovery tool as Research Monitor. The rebranding of the product
(previously resold through Copitrak Systems) coincides with the recent alliance
formed with 7SIDE, the leading provider of online company information. This
alliance brings all-round online information and technical expertise to the
Priory sales model.
Asked about the product rebranding, Priory Solutions' Managing Director Phillip
Markwick said the following: "Our recent alliance and rebranding is a response
to market feedback. Rather than simply being offered a product that counts
research sessions, firms increasingly want a suppler who understands the legal
information market, who understands the issues firms face in formulating a
research management strategy, and who can interpret the firm's wider research
management, cost recovery, and information accountability requirements into a
set of solutions. Our alliance with 7Side has allowed us to create a sales
model capable of meeting the unique requirements of the research management and
cost recovery market. We can now focus as much on information accountability as
pure research cost recovery; a differentiation that is key in providing real
value to our customers."
Priory's Research Monitor Product Manager Peter Borchers had the following to
say: "There is no doubt that our product is the most sophisticated research
cost recovery tool on the market today. A significant challenge for us has
always been communicating to firms the multitude of ways in which it can be
configured to meet their individual needs. Our sales model meets this challenge
by combining the required business and technical skill sets. I am particularly
satisfied with this development as it allows Priory's technical team to focus
on adding exciting new features to Research Monitor."

allocate the costs of using online information services. For further

Interface to Time Recording Systems To Be Added.
Priory are currently working with a top city firm to interface Elite TimeTrax with its online research cost recovery solution. As a result, the time that fee earners spend performing online research will be automatically recorded within TimeTrax. This will significantly reduce the amount of manual time entry the firm's 400 lawyers currently have to perform.
The Time Recording Interface will be available in the next release planned for April 2005.
1st December 2004
Flexible Field Validation Added.
Many online research sites provide a field into which users can enter a reference code. This will then be used by the customer when reconciling invoices. Law firms, for example, will often enter a client matter number into this field. Knowing that the codes entered are valid is a huge challenge faced by organisations.
To solve the validation problem Priory have developed a way to validate the entries on any field on a web page. For example, a law firm can specify, per site, what fields on a web page need to have valid client matter numbers entered.
"This represents another reason why our solution is the right choice to manage online research," says Priory's Peter Borchers. "Whilst the larger information vendors offer validation tools, they are specific to their service. Not only does our field validation work with any site, but it is also compatible with the major vendors' validation systems".

Product Launch
Priory Solutions has launched its online research cost recovery solution, which enables firms to recover the costs of online research.
Law firms spend large sums on research each year, and in some cases it can rise to over a million pounds. Previously seen as an unrecoverable expense, firms are now starting to pass research costs onto their clients, along with other more traditional disbursements.
Director Phillip Markwick points out that "A year ago the recovery of online research costs was something UK and European law firms were just starting to consider. Many firms have now made the move to recover online costs, but to do so they are using time-consuming, manual, paper-based systems. Our solution captures research at the time it is carried out and assigns the cost instantly to the correct client account within the firm's billing system" .
